Information Technology
In the last five years more than 150 people have started college/university degrees,
or have completed post-secondary degrees. Added to the demand of the tourist
job market, there's an increased need of people who ar familiar with, trained in, and
competent in information technology, from internet navigation to programming.
There's also a need for courses, training and access to capacity building in areas
particular to local industries, basically tourism and business.
We need to increase capacity among high school and university/college students,
as well as helping prepare a generation of primary school students, so to as to
make information technology part of their educational and labor assets. In a short
time a significant reduction in the digital gap would be expected.
The creation of an IT lab and training/educational program would help:
- reduce the digital gap in Las Terrenas during the next 4 years.
- connect library use to digital access to information, both as educational and as
recreational practices.
- create an information center for university students and in that way enhance
their academic preparation, their sources for research, while providing access
to the professional growth of the professionals already living here.
- foster the technical and professional training of people working or wanting to
work in tourism and business, enhancing their capacity to perform well and to
better their quality of life.
- establish the IT center/program as a key aspect of personal and professional
development in the community, from children to adults, as a change agent and a
resource accessible to all.
Volunteers would work directly with people, helping us set up the lab with
available equipment and in program development and implementation.
