Six Questions--2
4. Are our activities realistic and do they address real
needs?
- All programs started have been successful, have
attracted the willingness of people who donate funds and
resources to make it possible, and our volunteer
participation rate has increased. Users of the library have
increased 300% and new opportunities have presented
themselves for us to expand.
- Poverty is multi-sectorial, hence the diversity of
approaches, though they are mostly educational while
addressing specific and immediate needs such as health,
literacy, education and leadership.
5. Can we be trusted?
Financial reports for each of the activities for which external
funds have been obtained have been published on the
Website and the report has been made public. The library is
mostly a contribution of the Bourget family though it is
desirable to seek external, permanent and larger funding in
order to make it more sustainable and to expand. Summer
camps were initially funded by the Bourget family and its
second edition was mostly funded through a fundraising
event by people in the community. Our Website contains a
"transparency" section as well as access to all reports of
major events. We have a good reputation and we hope to
keep it that way. The intention is that once external funds
are obtained financial reports will be kept public and
accessible. More here.
6. What kind of commitment are we
looking for?
- Project-specific. Helping finance and support
specific programs or services, such as the
library, or the health operatives, or the
summer camps, or the academic support
services, or the literacy project, etc.
- Capital investments. We need a place to
house most programs as well as an office.
The place would need to be built and
furnished, and major aspects of running the
building need to be established. Furniture,
supplies and maintenance costs would be
needed as well.
- Operational support. Helping fund additional
staff, materials and supplies for events,
purchase of books and support materials,
sponsoring children for summer camps and
academic support, as well as others.
- Random acts of goodness. Do you have a
special project or desire in mind? If it fits with
our mission we would be interested in
knowing more about your interest and seeing
it become a reality.
