Los programas de la Fundación se llevan a cabo cuando hay voluntarios para realizar la función,
dependiendo de sus talentos, experiencias y disponibilidad. La Fundación no tiene personal de
apoyo sino que el/la cooperante ES el personal a cargo con el apoyo de los directores ejecutivos.
Cooperantes muchas veces trabajan independientemente y se les dá amplias oportunidades de
ejercitar su motivación propia y entusiasmo. Dependemos de cooperantes emprendedores.
La lista siguiente detalla las expectativas de servicio comunitario para que el aplicante sepa de los
márgenes adecuados:

La lista siguiente detalla las expectativas de servicio comunitario para que el aplicante sepa de los
márgenes adecuados:
- Tod@s l@s voluntari@s trabajan en la biblioteca, que es realmente un centro de actividades
múltiples, el requerido tiempo es de 15-20 horas a la semana, de 2:30-6 pm, manejando las
labores administrativas, de tutorías, de sala de tareas y/o de lectura individualizada o grupal. - De 10-20 horas adicionales a la semana se destinan a proyectos específicos del o de la
cooperante, ya sea en las artes, el medio ambiente, trabajo con niñas o niños y en otras éreas que
aparecen en las funciones descritas aquí (fotos a la derecha). Estas labores se realizan en base
a un horario coordinado con las demás funciones de la biblioteca y de la Fundación. - Asistir a la reunión semanal de cooperantes que a veces ocurre compartiendo un almuerzo o al
final de una tarde, generalmente los lunes. - No tod@s l@s voluntari@s tienen la misma experiencia o facilidades en el idioma local (español).
Annette y José harán lo posible por ayudar a cada voluntari@ con la logística, los recursos y las
informaciones necesarias para que puedan realizar su labor de la mejor manera posible. - Es muy importante leer la sección sobre requisitos, sobretodo porque lo que se pueda definir
como “éxito” es más fluído que absoluto. - Es posible para cooperantes trabajar con organizaciones en la comunidad previo arreglo con FMG.
- Además de sus grandes atractivos naturales, la comunidad de Las Terrenas ofrece grandes
atractivos sociales. Los/las cooperantes son responsables de mantener una conducta
representativa y no ser parte del sistema de explotación imperante en varios sectores. - FMG espera que los cooperantes cumplan con las leyes locales, por lo que no aprueba el uso de
drogas ilegales, relaciones con menores y el uso irresponsable del alcohol. En todas las
facilidades y actividades de la Fundación se invita a no usar tabaco. - Casa Paz, la residencia de voluntarias, es de uso estricto y exclusivo de mujeres cooperantes.
Para preservar la seguridad del lugar no se permite la estadía de visitantes en la misma. - Todas las funciones de la Fundación y nuestra relación con los/las cooperantes se basan en la
buena fé y voluntad entre las partes. Un ambiente positivo, de comunicación sincera y de manejo
de conflictos de manera constructiva son esenciales para el éxito de nuestra labor de servicio; o
sea, esperamos modelar los mismos valores a los que aspiramos promover en la comunidad.

experiences and willing disposition are crucial to our work. The Foundation does not have a staff, the
volunteer IS the staff, working under the guidance and encouragement of the directors who are,
themselves, unpaid and volunteers. Volunteers often work independently and make decisions on
their own. We depend on volunteers who are self-managed, enthusiastic and have a positive attitude
about people, our work, the community and themselves.

- All volunteers work at the library, which is really an activity center, and the required amount of work
for volunteers is 15-20 hrs/wk, mostly from 2:30-6 pm, facilitating administrative tasks, tutoring,
helping with school homework, reading with individual kids or in groups and assisting all library
guests with basic functions. - An additional 10-20 hrs/wk are dedicated to specialized projects, chosen by the volunteers,
focusing on either the environment, girls, boys, sports, recreation, arts, music and the like. - Volunteers are expected to attend the weekly all-volunteer meeting that usually take place over
lunch or at the end of the day, usually on Mondays. - Not all volunteers have the same experience of mastery of the Spanish language, which could be a
source of frustration to those with limited knowledge, but José and Annette are happy to assist
anyone with logistics, resources and information to help them complete their chosen goals. - It's very important to read our "message" to volunteers as "success" is more fluid rather than an
absolute process, and it depends heavily on personal commitment to the organization's mission. - Volunteers may work with other community organizations of their own choosing and we appreciate
the courtesy of coordinating such endeavors with us. - In addition to the great natural qualities of Las Terrenas, the community offers many social
opportunities as well. Some of them are desirable and others not as desirable. We expect
volunteers to represent us well in the community and to avoid being part of the local system of
exploitation, particularly sexual exploitation, illegal drug use and/or sexual exploitation of minors. - FMG encourages volunteers to abide by local laws, hence we don't approve the use of illegal drugs,
relationships with minors and the irresponsible use of alcohol. All of our facilities are smoke-free. - Casa Paz, the volunteer residence for women, is out of bounds to non-residents. To enhance
safety and security of volunteers we discourage overnight stays of non-volunteers. - All of our functions and our relationship with volunteers are rooted in the good faith and willingness
of all individuals involved. A positive environment leading to sincere and open communication,
particularly when conflicts arise, are central to the success of our endeavors. It is a shared
responsibility as we attempt to model the good practices that we want to see in the community.
